The Hong Kong Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (HKPDF) was established following the successful Third International Symposium of the Asian and Pacific Parkinson’s Disease Association (APPDA) in December 2001 in Hong Kong. The symposium was sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, and supported by a number of local and international organizations including the World Health Organization and the Movement Disorder Society. There is a huge demand from patients, their carers and our community to have updated educational materials on such diseases, not only to understand the challenges that they face, but also how to prepare themselves to cope with such a challenge. Knowledge on various aspects of Parkinson’s disease and its related disorders is rapidly increasing and evolving, with enormous amounts of new information from research efforts into their causations and new treatment modalities reported regularly. Even professional health care workers may have difficulty keeping up with the latest information and applying them to their clinical practice.
